A Winchester man charged for failing to seek medical attention for his mother before her death pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon.

Jeffrey Wisecup, 27, of 250 Oxford Drive, is facing a single count of murder for the Oct. 21 death of 54-year-old Sheila Wisecup in their apartment.

In court documents, Jeffrey Wisecup told police he found his mother dead in her bedroom Friday, Oct. 26. In an interview later, he told detectives he heard his mother having a seizure in the kitchen on the night of Oct. 20. He said he dragged her into her bedroom, shut the door and went back to sleep. When he checked on her the next morning, she was dead, he said.

Wisecup told police his mother intended to commit suicide after taking multiple insulin injections and taking numerous pills, but Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said nothing has been found to substantiate that claim.

Hall said Wisecup told co-workers and his boss that his mother had died, but told them not to tell anyone. Wisecup called 911 Friday morning

Wednesday, Clark District Judge Brandy Oliver Brown entered an automatic not guilty plea, because the charge is a felony, and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. He remains in the Clark County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond.
