A Winchester man was killed Friday morning when his car went off the side of Interstate 64 and overturned.

The driver was identified as 47-year-old Jeffrey Ray Wise, Clark County Coroner Robert Gayheart said. Gayheart said Wise was ejected from his vehicle and died from blunt force trauma.

Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. said Wise had just merged onto Interstate 64 from exit 101 shortly before 11 a.m. in his Nissan Frontier pickup truck.

“Witnesses said he was in the left lane and switched to the right lane,” Perdue said. Witnesses said they saw the rear of Wise’s vehicle started to fishtail and he lost control.

Gayheart said the vehicle went off the road near the 100 mile marker and overturned several times.

Perdue said Wise did not appear to be wearing a seat belt. The accident, he said, appears to be weather related.

No other vehicles were involved and Wise was alone in the vehicle, Perdue said.
