Starting Monday, Nov. 19, The Winchester Sun will launch a digital subscription campaign aimed at bringing the newspaper further into the digital age.

The campaign will offer new digital-only subscribers an introductory rate of $4.99 per month or $49 per year for unlimited access to winchestersun.com.

Print and digital subscribers will have unlimited access to news stories, photos and other content posted to winchestersun.com and will also receive the digital replica of the printed version of the newspaper, called the e-edition. Subscribers do not see pop-up ads from advertisers and are not asked to complete Google Consumer Surveys to read stories on the website.

Non-subscribers and subscribers who are not signed into their account will still be able to read eight free stories per month, including news, sports and lifestyle content, before being prompted for log-in information. A meter appearing at the top of each story will notify readers of the number of stories remaining.

Stories conveying urgent public safety information will not count toward the eight-story limit. Classified ads and public notices that local governments and other parties are required to publish by law will remain free on the website.

“This is another step in the evolution of our news products as we continue to find the best ways to serve our readers and our advertisers,” Sun publisher Michael Caldwell said. “Our goal is to be unmatched when it comes to providing our community with the news it wants and needs in digital and print formats.”

The e-edition, e-mailed straight to your inbox Tuesday through Saturday by 6:30 a.m., allows readers to flip through pages of a digital replica of that day’s printed newspaper on a phone, tablet or computer as well as clicking on an individual story to view a full-screen version.

Winchester Sun print subscribers receive free digital subscriptions. Setting up the digital subscription requires a subscriber ID, which can be obtained by calling the newspaper’s office at (859) 744-3123 or emailing subscriptions@winchestersun.com. Current subscribers can also obtain subscription IDs online, by visiting winchestersun.com/subscriptions and clicking on the “current subscribers” image.

At the same time, The Sun will also launch a free daily newsletter delivered to your inbox that offers a glance at the stories in that day’s newspaper.
