The Clark County Firefighters Association is collecting toys for less fortunate families, and the toy drive organizer said the group is in desperate need of donations.

Clark County Fire Lt. Robert Brock said the association has collected only 10 percent of the toys they had at this point in last year’s drive.

“Last year, we served about 312 families,” Brock said. “And right now, we don’t have enough toys to help three families.”

Brock said the goal each year is to serve 300 families, but he’ll be happy to help as many as possible.

The association is collecting new toys and monetary donations.

“We can also use gift cards of local businesses that sell toys,” he said. “When we get everything together at mid-December, we’ll look at the families we have and what toys we have and we’ll use the gift cards and monetary donations to fill in the gaps.”

Brock said any type of toy for children up to 17 years old will be accepted.

“We will take anything new for boys or girls for kids infant to even sometimes up to 18 years old depending on the family,” he said.

Brock said they association in “desperate need of toys” to be able to fulfill its mission.

“The children are referred through the family resource centers and even from local teachers,” Brock said. “We also have families that will call the station and ask for help with Christmas toys. Last year, every person that called or was recommended we were able to help. Everyone in need got something. And I’m afraid this year we won’t be able to do that if we don’t get the toy donations.”

Brock said toys can be dropped at any of the local fire departments. The association will also set up a toy drive beginning at 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at Rural King and plans to have one at Walmart as well.
