Sophomore Brenna Rose never had any interest in other sports growing up, but golf was the one that made an impact on her life.

She first picked up a golf club at 11 years old and knew then what her passion was.

Rose said if it was not for her family then she would not be the golfer or person she is today.

“My grandfather really loves golf,” she said. “He has really pushed me into the sport. If it weren’t for him, I do not know if I would have ever picked up a golf club.”

Rose also said her grandfather has been her motivation to become a successful student athlete.

“He always pushes me to do my best,” she said. “He is now the assistant coach of our team and I think he has really enjoyed getting to see me practice and play a lot more than in the past. Also, my coach Scott Franklin always pushes us all to do our best and never lets us give up. He always tells me to worry about my next shot and to not get down if I just shot a bad one.”

Rose believes golf is different because of the mental aspect.

“You have to have the right mindset when you are playing,” she said. “You cannot allow how good one shot is affect your next one. You must put in a lot of practice on your own as well as practice with your team. Golf is full of long, hot days at tournaments which is unlike other sports. They have shorter games that do not last nearly as long.”

Rose feels confident in every aspect of the game, but some days are better than others in different areas.

“It all just depends on the day,” she said. “Some days I can drive the ball really good and other days it is my putting. Overall, I think my best shots are in the fairway with my hybrids.”

Although she has confidence, she still is willing to put in the work to become better each day.

“I can always improve in every aspect of the game,” she said. “What I need to be practicing the most is my short game. You must get a solid rhythm down because if you do one thing all the time then you know what your shots will look like.”

Rose has big accomplishments set for herself as she goes deeper into her high school career.

“My goals are to stay in the top five for my next two years of high school,” she said. “I want to work hard for myself and my team. Hopefully we can make it the second day of state next year.”
