CRMC topic of AARP meeting

AARP Chapter 632 met Oct. 30 with President Elizabeth Gay presiding. There were 23 members and guests present.

The featured speakers were from Clark Regional Medical Center. Ashley Moore, director of emergency services, and Candice Tackett, director of patient experience, talked about the symptoms of a stroke or heart attack and passed out information.

CRMC does not have a neurologist on staff and can’t place stents, but is a chest pain accredited hospital affiliated with the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Anyone interested in volunteering at CRMC is invited to call Tackett at 745-6639 or Linda Crowe at 737-8523.

Don Rose announced a free program honoring U.S. veterans and their spouses Nov. 7 at Rose Mary C. Brooks Place. The following day, veterans were entertained at the Generations Center. Rose, who has interviewed more then 200 vets in Clark County, interviewed Frank Farmer about his World War II experiences at this event.

Three new members — Judy Bowman, Bruce Miller and Ann Shephard — joined AARP, bringing the local membership to 46.

Colista Ledford read the secretary’s report and Joyce Reffett gave the treasurer’s report.

The next AARP meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the James B. Allen Generations Center, 32 Meadow St. Everyone 50 years of age or older is invited.

Telephone Pioneers set schedule for 2019

The Telephone Pioneers hosted their November luncheon Nov. 8 at Jade Garden. Their next luncheon will be Dec. 13 at Applebee’s in Winchester.

The Pioneers’ luncheon schedule for 2019 will be as follows Jan. 10 at Jade Garden, Feb. 14 at Applebee’s, March 14 at Woody’s, April 11 at DJ’s Bar and Grill , May 9 at Blue Isle, June 15 at Applebee’s, July 11 at Steak N Shake, Aug. 8 at Pizza Hut (if closed, meeting will be at Woody’s), Sept. 12 at Applebee’s, Oct. 10 at Don Senor, Nov. 14 at Jade Garden and Dec. 12 at Applebee’s.

All luncheons will be at 11:30 a.m. All former and current Bell South and AT&T employees are invited to attend.

Former and active union members are invited to the CWA Local 3321 Christmas party at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at St. Joseph’s gymnasium on Main Street. No reservations are required. Members may bring a guest.

NARFE has Oct. meeting

Chapter 1828 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association met at noon Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Taste of China.

Present for the meeting were Elizabeth Bunch, Pat Gibbs, Janice Taulbee, Denver Parks, Wanda Bachman, Donald Henry, Lil Omohundro, Grace Ingram, Sally Holliman and Henry Duncan.
