Empty Bowls event raises record amount in 10th year

This year’s Empty Bowls Project wasn’t quite a sell out, but it raised more than $5,500 for Clark County Community Services.
Organizer Ruthie Skinner said there were 300 bowls available this year.
“We didn’t sell all the bowls, but that won’t be a problem,” she said. “Several people gave their $20 and gave their bowls back. Everyone was so generous.”
This was the 10th year for the Empty Bowls Project in Winchester. The event features bowls made by local potters, which are filled with vegetable soup for patrons. At the end, people can keep their bowl if they wish.
Skinner said the program started in North Carolina with the idea of having a simple meal to remember those whose bowls are empty.
This year, the project raised $5,585 for CCCS, which is a record; Skinner said it was partly because of an increase in price from $15 to $20 this year.
