OUR VIEW: Challenge spotlights generosity

There are many people in the community who are incredibly generous with their time and money, and the results from the recent GoodGiving Challenge certainly shine a light on that.

While the results are preliminary, Clark County nonprofits raised more than $260,000 in a week.

That figure doesn’t include matching funds from the Clark County Community Foundation or other matching grants earned throughout the challenge.

There were 20 nonprofits participating in this year’s challenge with a wide variety of causes from animal welfare groups to community centers, food banks, pregnancy care, schools, historic preservation and more.

In all, there were 1,162 donations made to local nonprofits through the charity totaling $263,747.

Besides Fayette County, Clark has the most nonprofits participating and raised significantly more than the 13 other counties that participated.

Year after year, our community shows up to support our nonprofits through this challenge.

All those funds, plus more that will be finalized in the coming week and distributed in January, will go to worthy causes in our community.

Those donations will help make Winchester and Clark County a better place to live and work.

We are thankful for the great work these nonprofits do in our community.

Our community’s generosity is also a source of great pride.
