A Winchester man was sentenced to a year in prison for stealing a car and leading police on a pursuit to Fayette County.

Keontez Hazley, 28, pleaded guilty in October in Clark Circuit Clerk to theft by unlawful taking, second-degree fleeing or evading police and driving on a suspended operator’s license. Thursday, Hazley was sentenced to one year in prison for all charges.

According to Winchester Police, Hazley stole a Toyota Highlander, which was left running and unattended, at Speedway, 1480 W. Lexington Ave., on July 3.

Winchester officers followed the vehicle along Interstate 64 and into Fayette County, according to court records.

When the pursuit reached Newtown Pike, police said Hazley stopped suddenly in the road, got out and ran from the scene. Hazley was later captured and arrested.
