Police are looking for three people responsible for breaking into a cash register at Walmart on New Year’s Eve and leaving with an unknown amount of cash.
Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said an employee witnessed a person pry open an unattended register near the auto service section early Monday morning at the Winchester store.
The person, though, was not apprehended and fled on foot. The amount of money taken has not been determined, he said.
The police were notified at 5:26 a.m. Monday.
“We’re reviewing (surveillance) video,” Hall said. “No one was confronted or threatened.”
Hall said Wednesday the Winchester theft may be related to a similar incident about an hour and a half later at the Mount Sterling Walmart.
Winchester and Mount Sterling detectives compared video footage and, according to a Facebook post made by Winchester Police, confirmed three suspects were involved.
The suspects appear to be two African-American men and a Caucasian woman. One of the men was using a motorized wheelchair as they left the Winchester location.
