The Lexington man accused of running over a Clark County deputy sheriff’s foot following a pursuit sent his criminal cases to the grand jury Wednesday.

Jason Lewis, 36, is facing 14 charges from the Dec. 12, 2018, pursuit which began in Fayette County and ended on Hud Road in Clark County.

According to court documents, Clark County deputies located the suspect’s vehicle on Lexington Road near the county line and saw it cross the center line multiple times. The driver then turned onto Hud Road, but turned around and started approaching the waiting deputies at a slow speed.

The driver, later identified as Lewis, would not stop for deputies, though he had his hands up inside the car. Deputy Bobby Estes attempted to break the window on the driver’s door as it passed, but the car rolled over his foot.

Lewis and a passenger were then removed from the car and arrested. When they searched the car, deputies found bagged marijuana, more than $2,000 in cash, two handguns, a knife and a partially burned marijuana cigarette.

Wednesday, the judge amended Lewis’ driving on a DUI-suspended operator’s license to driving on a suspended operator’s license and a marijuana trafficking charge to possession before the case was sent to the grand jury.

Lewis’ other charges of driving under the influence (second offense), failure to or improper signal, no registration plate, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, careless driving, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, first-degree wanton endangerment, third-degree assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain insurance and first-degree fleeing or evading police remained intact.
