SATURDAY, JAN. 5
— Clark County Republican Party meeting, 9 a.m. at Steak N Shake. Guest speaker will be Whitney Westerfield, candidate for attorney general. All registered Republicans are welcome to attend.
— Community prayer service, 10 a.m. at Cathedral Church of God, 3313 Lexington Road. All are invited to pray for community, elected officials, schools, first responders and more.
— Winchester Beacon of Hope Emergency Shelter breakfast, 7 to 11 a.m. at Winchester Elks Lodge No. 2816, 255 Shoppers Drive. Buffet-style breakfast for $8. All Beacon of Hope residents will eat free. All proceeds donated will go to the Winchester Beacon of Hope Emergency Shelter.
SUNDAY, JAN. 6
— Winchester Elks Lodge annual Hoop Shoot, 2 p.m. at College Park Gym. Registration opens at 1:30 p.m. Open to all children age 8 to 13 based on contestant’s age on April 1. There will be separate divisions for boys and girls with age groups 8 to 9, 10 to 11 and 12 to 13. There will be certificates, awards and prizes.
MONDAY, JAN. 7
— George Rogers Clark High School SBDM meeting, 4 p.m., in the school conference room.
— Winchester Licensing Board meeting, 5 p.m., at Winchester City Hall.
— Clark County Democratic Woman’s Club meeting at Clark County Public Library. Appetizers will be at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
— NAMI Winchester-Clark County (National Alliance on Mental Illness) support and educational meeting, 7 p.m., at McCready Hall, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 2410 Lexington Road. — Second Thursday program, 6:30 p.m. at Bluegrass Heritage Museum, 217 S. Main St. Speaker will be author, re-enactor and educator Eddie Price on “Kentucky After the War of 1812. Price will also sign copies of his new book, “One Drop A Slave.”

— Winchester Elks Lodge No. 2816 Texas Hold ‘Em tournament at the lodge, 255 Shoppers Drive. Sign up starts at noon and the tournament begins at 1 p.m. $50 entry fee gets you $5,000 in chips. Buy back fee of $25 once in first hour gets you an additional $5,000 in chips (must have no chips). Add on at break $25 gets you $5,000 in chips.
