Car hits Maple St. Speedway

The Speedway in downtown Winchester sustained heavy damage over the weekend when a vehicle ran through the front of the store.

A Winchester Police report said the front doors and windows of the building located on the corner of Maple Street and Lexington Avenue were knocked inside the store around 10:40 p.m. Saturday.

According to the report, Kenneth Anderson, 65 of North Maple Street, was attempting to pull into a parking space at near the front doors of Speedway.

Anderson told the officer when he attempted to stop the Toyota Highlander he was driving, his foot slipped off the brake pedal and on to the accelerator causing his vehicle to run into the front doors.

The reports states that there was significant damage to the front of the building and some of the merchandise in the stores.

There were no injuries reported at the scene.
