Rehearsals haven’t stopped for Shearer Elementary School students acting in the upcoming “The Lion King Kids” production.

Last week, they trained with combat choreographer Sloan Theaker, but this week they focused on singing.

Steve Crosby, who directed the Leeds Center for the Arts’ recent production of “Mary Poppins,” worked with “The Lion King Kids” vocalists Wednesday, teaching them new techniques for projecting their voices and encouraging them to not only sing each song technically well but to sing with the narrative in mind.

This production will be Shearer’s sixth annual Broadway-style musical and includes a cast of about 66 students from kindergarten through fourth grade.

“The Lion King Kids” will premiere at 7 p.m. March 1 at the Leeds Center for the Arts.
