Alvarado chosen as Bevin’s running mate

State Sen. Ralph Alvarado was announced Friday as Gov. Matt Bevin’s running mate in the lieutenant governor position.

Alvarado (R-Winchester) was recently elected to his second term representing Clark County, Montgomery County and a portion of Fayette County. He would take the place of Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton on the ticket for this year’s gubernatorial election.

A medical doctor by trade, Alvarado has focused on medical issues and filed a number of bills for medical and health care issues during his first term and for this session of the Kentucky General Assembly.

He is the chairman of the senate health and welfare committee and a member of the state and local government and transportation committees. He also sits on the 2018-20 Budget Preparation Committee and the Medicaid oversight and Advisory Committee.

He is a member of the executive committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures. He also became the first Hispanic person elected to the state legislature in 2014.

He was also chosen to speak during the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
