This week’s cool weather pairs perfectly with a bowl of chili.
Director Dianna Sims said the 18th annual Generations Center chili fundraiser runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at 32 Meadow St.
Sims said the cost is $6 and includes a bowl of homemade chili, peanut butter or pimento cheese sandwich, crackers, dessert and a drink.

“It’s the biggest fundraiser that we do here at the center,” Sims said.
Early-bird delivery is available to local businesses from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 14. Fax delivery orders to 744-8062, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 744-3235.
All proceeds benefit programs for the elderly.
The James B. Allen, Jr. Generations Center provides seniors 60 years and older with socialization, recreation, exercise programs and nutritious meals. Seniors enjoy participating in exercise programs, using the exercise equipment, recreational games, field trips, educational and health screening programs and many other activities, according to its website.
Other services provided through the centers include information and assistance, transportation, advocacy, counseling, homemaker, outreach and legal aid.
Sims said it’s important to offer these programs for seniors in the community.
“It’s important on so many levels, for the homebound it’s so important to get meals to them every day and even to see them every day to make sure they’re OK,” Sims said. “ … And for the ones that come up here, they come up here, spend the day, eat lunch and do activities. The other option is to sit at home and be alone.”
Sims said she is hoping for perfect chili weather this week and invites the community to come to get a bowl.
“help us with our fundraiser and enjoy a great bowl of chili,” Sims said.
