Winchester Municipal Utilities announced it would start weekly yard waste collection for 2018 on March 25.

Yard waste includes green curb-its, bagged grass, bagged leaves, shrubs, bundled branches and more. Tree branches must be less than two inches in diameter and four feet in length.

Customers must call at least 24-hours in advance to schedule a pickup if the branches exceed those requirements; each customer receives one pickup per month by mechanical means.

Customers should have their green curb-it’s, personal cans, and bags with grass and leaves and small bundled limbs out to the curb on their collection day. All services will be collected on the same day but not necessarily at the same time.

According to WMU’s website, customers must place yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of pickup, and it must not obstruct any vehicles utility poles, wires, fences, mailboxes or more.

Customers should not place dirt, sod, rocks or gravel as yard waste.

Customers must also keep solid waste and yard waste separate.

Customers can direct any questions to the Solid Waste Department at 859-744-1170.
