Senior Brooklyn Johnson signed her letter of intent Thursday to attend Campbellsville University to further her education and continue playing soccer.

Johnson said she is ecstatic to begin her new journey and reunite with her friend.

“I’m really excited,” she said. “I’m going to get there, but my best friend goes to Campbellsville and is on the soccer team, too. It is going to be good and it’s going to be a great year.”

Johnson said she picked CU because she felt right at home.

“It was a very homey-feeling,” she said. “It has a great community and Baptist campus ministry. They all welcomed me, I loved it and the coaches are very warming as well as the professors. It just felt like home.”

Johnson said if she stays on top of the school work her freshman year then she will consider it as a successful first year.

“I’ve got to take a class in the summer,” she said. “I get to apply to nursing school in the spring earlier than a lot of people get to. It will be a great year if I get to do that.”

Johnson said her career at GRC was unforgettable and she will miss all her teammates.

“It’s going to be hard leaving them,” she said. “I love my team and I loved playing with them for four years. It was fun getting to know all the different girls. It’s going to be sad leaving them, but I know they’ll do great. They’ll push through and they always do.”

Johnson said going to the state tournament three years in a row has been her most memorable moments.

“Going to state has been a great journey,” she said. “It always has been. The girls have always been supportive no matter win or lose. As long as we played our best, we didn’t care. The best memories always comes from those situations where we laugh the most.”

Johnson admits she had to put countless hours into her school work to make her dream become a reality.

“I’ve had to put in a lot of work with all of the college courses I’ve had to take,” she said. “Along with all the certifications I’ve taken here at the high school, it’s been hard juggling that with the studying but somehow I’ve overcame it all.”
