OUR VIEW: What do we need from you?

In a recent webinar our staff attended taught by John Hatcher, a journalism professor at Duluth University, we were encouraged to write a letter to our readers.
Hatcher advised that in this exercise, we talk to our readers about how they can help make our newspaper better. So here goes.
As we strive to make this newspaper the best it can be, we need your help.
Here are some of the ways you can help enhance the content in your local newspaper:
—Your take: Clark County is home to some great photographers, and we want to feature your work. Whether you’re a professional with top-of-the-line equipment or a someone who just enjoys capturing moments with their cell phone, we want to showcase the people, places and things that you photograph. If you have a photo you would like to submit to Your Take, drop it by The Winchester Sun at 20 Wall St. or send it by email to yourtake@winchestersun.com.
—Recommendations for standing feature subjects: Each week, we feature multiple local people in various standing features. On Tuesdays, we honor our “Public Servant of the Week.” Wednesdays are dedicated to our “Meet the Teacher” feature, and Fridays are for “Student Spotlights.” Additionally, we like to run a photo essay each Friday on our “Neighbors” page. We are always open to suggestions from the community about who to feature. Send your recommendations to news@winchestersun.com or call 759-0049.
—Story pitches: We are always open to story ideas from our readers on any topic. Do you know of something going on in town? Whatever it may be, share it with us. You can send in news tips through our website or Facebook page, call the office or email us. Whether its news, features or something else, we want to hear what you value as news in our community.
—Trophy case: Do you have a young athlete who won an award? Send their photo in my email or drop it by the office and share a little about the award. We will run them in our sports section.
—Columnists: At The Sun we are proud to have a slate of high-quality, award-winning local columnists. But, we are always open to hearing more community voices. Are you interested in being an opinion or lifestyle columnist? Send us a pitch at whitney.leggett@winchestersun.com. We’d love to hear from you, and we bet the community would too.
—Other Submitted content: With a small staff, it can be difficult to cover every corner of the community as fully as we’d like. That’s where we rely on our dedicated readers and subscribers to submit content. If you have press releases, photos from events, photos of awards, or whatever it may be, send them to us or bring them by the office.
We want to open our doors and our pages to the community. After all, we are here to serve you. What you want to see in the pages of The Sun is what we want to give you.
Alongside all the news we gather, we’d love to feature news you submit and value as well.
Thanks in advance for helping us make The Sun the best small daily newspaper in the state.
Editorials represent the opinion of the newspaper’s editorial board. The board is comprised of publisher Michael Caldwell and Bluegrass Newsmedia editors Whitney Leggett and Ben Kleppinger. To inquire about a meeting with the board, contact Caldwell at 759-0095.
