Breast cancer awareness and screenings aren’t just for October.

Clark Regional Medical Center is hosting its first March Mam-ness event on March 26, offering 3-D screening mammograms for women.

Tamila Humphries, mammography supervisor, said there are still spots available for those who want a screening. Anyone older than 40 without any health issues or a family history of breast cancer can have the screening without a doctor’s order, she said.

“If they mention the event (when they call), they will be scheduled for that day,” Humphries said.

The hospital will offer refreshments and the mammography office will be open extended hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Humphries said it typically takes about 30 minutes to complete: about 15 minutes to get registered and another 15 for the actual screening.

CRMC Director of Marketing Sarah Alexander said this is a first-time event and plays off the March Madness theme.

“It’s a reminder breast cancer awareness needs to go year round,” Alexander said, “not just in October.”

Alexander said other events are being planned for later this year.
