Daffodil Show to visit Clark once again

After taking a year off, the Kentucky Daffodil and Bulb Society returns to George Rogers Clark High School this weekend.

Michael Kuduk, who organizes the show, said he is expecting about 750 blooms from 25 exhibitors for the three-day show.

Kuduk has been growing daffodils himself since 2005 after deciding to get out of growing roses and into other plants.

“Everyone thinks they are  yellow trumpets that are up for a week,” he said. “There are many, many types of blooms. They come in many, many colors.”

Kuduk grows about 400 varieties in his garden. Daffodils, he said, are low maintenance flowers and can last for years.

“The only requirement is a place with good drainage,” he said. “Once you put them in the ground and in the right spot, they’ll stay in the ground (and bloom annually) for a long, long time.”

The KDABS show started in 2015, and has grown into a three-day event. This year, the show will be open to the public Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Entries will be accepted from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the school. Entries will be judged from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Kuduk said many of the judges will be on hand Saturday afternoon and available to answer questions.

Exhibitors are expected from Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and West Virginia, he said.
