Roads near the Dale Station power plant will be closed briefly Thursday as contractors continue demolishing the facility.
According to East Kentucky Power Cooperative, the intersection of Ford Road (KY 1924) and Ford Hampton Road will be closed on Thursday to assure safety during a phase of a nearby demolition project.
The closure is expected at some time during the afternoon, but EKPC did not provide an exact time estimate.
During the closure, traffic will be blocked at the intersection and through traffic will be halted on Ford Road at the intersection.
“The road closure will ensure the safety of motorists as crews remove a portion of the Dale Station’s powerhouse, which is being demolished,” accordoing to a press release from EKPC.
This will be the second time in the last few weeks demolition has required the roads to be closed.
The work is scheduled to be completed by summer, EKPC External Affairs Manager Nick Comer told The Sun previously.
Construction on the powerhouse began in 1951, but EKPC announced in 2014 it would begin shutting the plant down as it fell behind federal environmental standards. It was closed completely in 2016. The site covers about 60 acres and EKPC has not announced a future use for the property.
