A Winchester woman was arrested Friday for allegedly dragging a 7-year-old girl down the hall, leaving burns on the child’s back.

Kaitlen Combs, 23, and her boyfriend, 28-year-old John Goodwin, both of 39 E. Lexington Ave., were charged with first-degree criminal abuse following interviews by Winchester Police.

According to court documents, Winchester Police detectives were contacted by officials at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after the child was taken there for treatment.

The incident occurred April 17, after Combs and the child got into an argument.

In the arrest citation, police said Combs admitted to dragging the child across the carpet after being angry and frustrated with the child. She also allegedly threatened the child with going into foster care after the girl said she would tell her teachers about the incident.

Goodwin, who was identified in documents as Combs’ boyfriend, said Combs told him about the incident that day. Police said Goodwin helped treat the child’s wounds, but then left her in Combs’ care and did not report the incident.

Both are being held in the Clark County Detention Center on a $7,500 cash bond.
