Central Baptist to host security training for area churches

Local churches will receive active shooter training next month.
Central Baptist, in partnership with the Kentucky Baptist Convention, is offering a comprehensive Church Security Conference, “Keeping Your Church Safe,” with information churches need to know about protecting their members from a potential threat.
The training will be among the practical security tips for churches at Central Baptist Church May 18.
Expert speakers will provide help the basics of starting a church security plan, recruiting and maintaining a security team, firearms safety and how to avoid — and respond to — an active shooter in a church.
Stephen Rice, KBC church consulting and revitalization team leader, said in a news release every church must think about church security in the modern world. Rice said every church must have a comprehensive church security plan.
Sessions include “Active Shooter Preparedness,” presented by Triple Counter Measure Founder Michael Webb; “The Single Biggest Mistake Any Church Can Make,” presented by Modern Systems President David Morris; “Legal Matters to Consider,” presented by Schuette Law Group Managing Partner Brian Schuette and more.
There will also be breakout sessions and lunch provided.
Breakout sessions include:
— Active Shooters in Places of Worship: What Can You Do to Protect Your Organization? Webb will discuss principles and techniques to avoid an active shooter in the church and how to respond if an active shooter appears.
— A Legally Sound Approach to Church Security. Schuette will examine church security issues from a legal perspective to provide church leaders with practical insights to guide them.
— Central Baptist Winchester Church Security Story. David Hoffman will discuss how Central Baptist Church developed comprehensive a church security and safety ministry. Hoffman details personal challenges, successes and lessons learned during the processes.
— Church Security 101. Rob Patterson will discuss the basics of how to get started with a church security plan, explore keys to recruiting and maintaining a security team and show the audience how to acquire helpful tools and resources.
— Firearm Safety Inside the Church. Aaron Beighle will discuss safety rules for firearms, weapon retention, weapon concealment, weapon manipulation, weapon deployment and communication principles.
— Safety and Security Essentials in Children’s Ministry. Missy Harris will evaluate the current safety level of your children’s ministry. After identifying weak areas, Harris will discuss long term planning, short term planning and steps to implement immediately.
— The Important Role of Technology in Security. Morris will explain how any size church can create multiple layers of protection with the proper technology. This session will discuss the process of integrating people and technology for a safer church.
— Top 10 Ways to Have the Best Children’s Ministry Team. In this seminar, Harris will explore ways churches can recruit, maintain and develop excellent leadership for children’s ministry teams.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 18 at 101 W. Central Ave.
