The intersection of Ford Road (KY 1924) and Ford Hampton Road will close briefly Friday, as demolition continues on the old Dale Station power plant.
The closure is expected briefly at some time during the afternoon, according to a press release from East Kentucky Power Cooperative. For a brief period, traffic will be blocked at the intersection and through traffic will be halted on Ford Road at the intersection.
“The road closure will ensure the safety of motorists as crews remove a portion of the Dale Station’s powerhouse, which is being demolished,” the press release states.
This will be the third time demolition has required the roads to be closed, and officials said previously closures may happen again as the demolition progresses. The work is scheduled to be completed by summer, EKPC officials told The Sun previously
Construction on the powerhouse began in 1951, but EKPC announced in 2014 it would begin shutting the plant down as it fell behind federal environmental standards. It was closed completely in 2016.
The site covers about 60 acres and EKPC has not announced a future use for the property.
EKPC has already removed the coal ash from the site.
