The Cardinals (13-12) will be the No. 2 seed in the 40th District Tournament and will take on third-seeded Bourbon County (18-12) at 3 p.m. at Montgomery County High School. Clark went 4-2 in district play, losing both games to top-seeded Montgomery County.

The Indians (23-6) defeated the Cardinals 7-1 on March 28 in Mount Sterling and edged Clark 4-1 in a game played on May 4 at Cardinal Field. In that contest, the Cardinals managed just six hits, while pitchers Aaron Abner and Ethan Huff scattered six hits and six strikeouts.

Clark finished the regular season with two straight setbacks, including a 12-0 loss to Boyle County in its regular-season finale earlier this week at Cardinal Field.

Montgomery County carries a four game winning streak into the tournament and has outscored its opponents 27-1 during the current winning streak.

The George Rogers Clark High School softball team will take on Paris in the opening round of the 40th District Tournament Monday at Bourbon County.

The Cardinals (12-16) tied the Colonels with a 5-1 mark in the district standings and won a coin flip for the top seed. Clark lost to Bourbon 1-0 on April 9 at Paris and returned the favor with a 1-0 win on April 29 at Cardinal Heights.

The Cardinals suffered a 10-2 loss to Clay Count Friday night at Cardinal Heights. Clark led 2-1 after the first inning, but the Tigers scored seven runs during the next three innings, including a five-run outburst in the third frame.

Emily Schooler  scattered 10 runs on 11 hits and four and two thirds innings. Lauren Carpenter led the Lady Cardinals with two hits. Clark closes the regular season with a game at Boyd County today.
