Robert Campbell Junior High will have a new football coach next season.
Tony Lanning, a 1994 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School and a member of the school’s Class 4A State Championship team in 1991, was named head coach.
Lanning was a 3-year letterman at Clark and also played baseball, basketball and tennis.
He played at Campbellsville University and began his coaching career at Clark in the 2010-11 season. He also coached at Magoffin High School from 2016-18.
“I’m very excited about the future of Cardinal Football,” he said. “I’m a strong believer in discipline and academics.
“I’m very grateful for this opportunity to help this young student-athletes to grow on and off the field.”
Lanning has three children, Katelyn, a freshman at Morehead State and son Grayson is a junior at Morehead State. His daughter Addison is in the first grade.
Lanning said he is “blessed beyond what I deserve” and is looking forward to leading the program.
“A lot have made sports and football an awesome thing in this town and I hope to continue that,” he said. “I’m certainly glad to be home. I’m very humbled and grateful.”
