Sauté, dice, chop, roast and whip! These are all cooking techniques Kentucky youth can learn through the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service’s Super Star Chef camp.

This camp will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 16-18 at the Clark County Cooperative Extension Office. The camp is free for ages 9-12.

The skills taught in this camp will help youth build confidence and independence in the kitchen.

During the camp, participants can gain hands-on cooking experience and will be introduced to new foods and recipes as they prepare healthy dishes like fiesta dip, fruity parfaits, tasty veggie pizza and carrot muffins.

Gaining knowledge and exploring different foods while creating fun and healthy homemade meals, each student will also come away from the experience with essential cooking skills and free cooking tools.

“During the three-day program, participants learn cooking skills and how to make healthy choices while tasting new recipes and gaining confidence in the kitchen,” said Debra Cotterill, director of the Kentucky Nutrition Education Program. “These are lessons they’ll use for life, and building healthy habits now will help them grow into healthy adults.”

No previous cooking skills are required for this program. Some participants just want to learn how to make an after-school snack, while others dream of having a restaurant or cooking show.

Participants are encouraged to sample all the recipes they prepare and to continue using their new cooking skills at home.

This camp will give your child confidence in the kitchen and empower them to make healthy choices by learning essential cooking skills in a fun and safe environment.

Registration for Super Star Chef camp will begin Thursday by calling the Clark County Extension Office at 744-4682.

Space is limited, so don’t delay!
