A late night truck crash left a truck trailer dangling from a bridge over Interstate 64 and tons of coal scattered everywhere.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday on the Mountain Parkway bridge over the interstate.

According to the accident report, truck driver Brandon Adams of Shelby Gap was crossing the bridge at the end of the parkway when he felt something go loose in the trailer. The trailer then struck the right side of the bridge before going over the left side and the guardrail.

The 2002 Peterbilt tractor overturned on its left side but remained on the bridge. The trailer, though, was hanging off the bridge and over the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64.

Clark County Maj. Chris Smith said Adams got out of the truck himself. The accident report indicated he refused medical treatment at the scene.

The westbound lanes of the Parkway were closed until about 9 a.m. Wednesday while the scene was cleared. Both lanes of the interstate opened early Wednesday morning.

No one else was in the truck and no other vehicles were involved.
