Volleyball

George Rogers Clark volleyball traveled to Wolfe County over the weekend to compete in the Swift Silver Mine DIG for the Gold tournament. The Lady Cardinals fell to Paintsville 2-1 (25-19, 25-27, 25-18) in the first match. They took on Floyd Central in the second match, losing 2-0 (25-18, 25-16).

GRC hits the floor again today when Sayre comes to town at 6 p.m.

Girls soccer

Another GRC team hit the road over the weekend to compete in a tournament. GRC’s girls soccer team went to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to play in the Smoky Mountain Cup.

The first game was against Jefferson County, Tennessee, which the Lady Cardinals won 6-0. Allie Bus scored three goals, Leslie Hernandez scored two and Delaney Manning scored one.

The second game of the tournament brought the Lady Cardinals their first loss of the season, falling 6-2 to McMinn County, Tennessee. Ciana Araya and Julia Pohl each scored one goal.

The final game of the tournament for the Cardinals was another loss to another Tennessee team, losing 5-4 to Oak Ridge. Hernandez, Manning, Araya and Caitlin Fike each scored a goal for GRC.

RDC girls basketball

Campbell Junior High also had a team travel to play in a tournament over the weekend. RDC’s girls basketball teams competed in the KBC Girls Got Game Classic. The sixth-grade team finished in third place and the seventh- and eighth-grade teams both finished in second place.
