After a two-loss weekend, George Rogers Clark volleyball looked to get back on track Tuesday night against Sayre.

The first set went back and forth between the Cardinals and the Spartans. GRC fell behind 8-4 early, with the four Cardinal errors being the difference in the two teams.

Head coach Jesse Bryson was able to get her team’s head back into it, rattling off four straight points to tie it back up.

With the two teams battling it out, the Lady Cardinals found themselves down 19-17 before Bryson called another timeout, rallying her troops once again to tie the game at 21.

A call against a Sayre player stepping over the center line gave the Spartans the motivation they needed to get three straight points and an opportunity to win the first set with a 24-21 lead.

But the Lady Cards answered back with three straight points of their own. However, a serving error and a miscommunication gave the Spartans a 26-24 win in the first set.

GRC wasn’t able to get it going again for the rest of the match, falling behind early in the second set. A 19-10 deficit was enough for Bryson to have her team roll on the floor during a timeout when the team failed to communicate who was getting a ball, leaving it to hit the middle of the floor with several girls standing around it.

The timeout was able to create a little spark for GRC, earning four straight points to get within five of the Spartans, but eventually dropped the set 25-15.

The Cardinals fell behind early in the third set as well, losing the first five points. They showed fight with their backs against the wall, just one point away from losing the match they were able to score four straight points but ultimately lost the set 25-18.

The Lady Cardinals will be back in action today when they hit the road to take on Fleming County with freshmen, junior varsity and varsity games. The freshmen game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
