After a big win against one of the top teams in the state, Henry Clay, George Rogers Clark looked to keep their first-place standing against Bourbon County.

With Campbell County just a half-game back, the Cards needed to win this one to stay in first.

The Cards did just that, putting their foot on the gas early and holding it there for the entire game.

Not even 10 minutes into the game, GRC got on the board with a Delaney Manning goal from a Shelby Vaughn assist.

Just a few minutes later, Vaughn got on the board with a goal of her own coming from a free kick.

With just more than 10 minutes left in the half, the duo connected again for a Manning goal and a Vaughn assist.

Vaughn would set up another teammate, Ciana Araya, for her fourth assist of the night and Araya’s first goal.

Just before halftime, Araya knocked in another goal, this time on an Allie Bush assist, to bring the Cardinal’s lead to 5-0 at halftime.

The Cards didn’t let up in the second half.

Manning came out of the locker room and found the back of the net again, completing her hat trick thanks to an Araya assist.

Bourbon County’s best opportunity to score came from a penalty kick midway through the second half, but GRC goalkeeper Carrie Stevens was able to make a diving stop to keep her clean sheet intact.

Manning found the back of the net once more before time expired, giving the Cards a 7-0 that they would hold on to win the game with.

Manning’s four goals tied a team-high this season, matching Bush’s four goals against Corbin last week.

It was also her 22nd goal of the season, which brought her to tied for 11th in the state this season.

Vaughn’s four assists were a team-high for the season, breaking Bush’s mark of three she has reached twice so far.

Both Vaughn and Bush are in the top 30 in the state for assists.

The Cardinals are currently 10th in the state in scoring, netting 70 goals already this season, the most in the 10th Region.

GRC is back in action Saturday as they travel to take on Newport Central Catholic at 3 p.m.
