The Winchester Sun: Would you support full Sunday alcohol sales in Winchester?

— Megan Marie Garabrandt Stone: “Might as well… Not selling, I mean does it actually stop the entire town from drinking on Sundays?? No they just buy it the day before. Sadly it isn’t the 50’s anymore. Businesses and people work on Sunday. It’s how bills get paid”

— Valerie Mcfarland Freeman: “Sad to hear this is even a consideration. I would be happy if we went back to stores closing on Sundays (telling my age). It would hopefully keep more people home with their families which is desperately needed.”

— Katie Purdon Henson: “The increased tax revenue could go a long way to help Clark Co. Making it legal to purchase on Sunday doesn’t mean anyone opposed has to purchase. If you are opposed to alcohol that is your right but if you expect to receive respect for your ideals you should respect those that also may disagree. By not selling on Sundays doesn’t mean that less people are drinking or purchasing. They just aren’t buying it on Sundays. I’m not a big alcohol consumer but I know many people that just buy extra on Saturday for Sunday or go to Lexington on Sunday to buy it. By not selling it you aren’t really curbing the habit your just driving it elsewhere.”

— Tammy Sloan: “I live in Winchester, I pay taxes, I pay school taxes and don’t even have children in school. I don’t feel I should have to drive to LEX to buy liquor. I have never had a DUI, or any other offense for drinking. I think if I want to buy beer on Sunday I should have that right.”

— Crystal Beckham: “Nope, enough addiction problems here, see it on nearly every corner and I haven’t lived here that long. This town has major issues with drugs and alcohol and increased alcohol sales will only make things worse.”

— Michelle Watts Ethington: “No, this will only further the alcoholic problem many are fighting now. This will only cause further deterioration of our community. Why don’t you fund more alcohol and drug rehabs in the community?”

— Cindie Rogers: “I just think we have enough problems in this town with all addictions. Why make it easier to get. Everyone has survived this long without Sunday alcohol sales.”

— Tanya Thomas Martin: “Yes just look at all the money that goes to Lexington for alcohol on Sunday”

— Venita Mack: “Absolutely. Your rights shouldn’t infringe on mine. Don’t like it? Fine, don’t buy it.”
