TELL US: Do you think selecting artificial turf for the infield and outfield of the baseball and softball fields was the best decision?

— Michelle Puckett: “I love this! Our students, parents, teachers and overall community need something in this county to be proud of. If our taxes go up so be it. At least we’ll see our money in use.”

— Michael Lane Rogers: “Absolutely it was the best decision, long term. Our kids have never had anything like this total complex will be, once completed. Just more multi-use space for our kids. Every student in CCPS will reap the benefit of this complex. The community will as well.”

— Emily Harrison: “It’s the best decision for Clark county sports!! The girls/boys playing on a turf field will motivate them to do better and will make more kids want to play on those fields one day!! I wish I had a turf field when I was in high school and I’m so excited for them!”

— Paula Underwood Carden: “If it’s the people’s tax money helping to pay for this…then why not use the money for something that everyone, especially all the kids can use.”

— Cheryl Harrison: “We spared no expense for our state of the art football stadium which I whole heartily support. Our Baseball and Softball Players deserve the same. KUDOS to the 4 BOE members who voted for this upgrade.”

— Kevin Chambers: “Short term means more money spent. Long term it saves money. Some people just can’t see past today though.”

— Lindsey A. Frick: “So here’s the thing. This is the BEST thing that can happen for our kids. This is money only meant for the school board, not any type of community center, or anything else. Our kids need something to look forward to in High School. They spend their days playing on crappy fields and for some kids, these fields may be the nicest fields they ever play on or even see in their lifetime. You have to invest in sports, or the kids will get lost “in the streets” and go down other avenues. This gives them incentives to try harder, do better in school. If you attend a football game and see the student section and all of the fans coming to support the players, you will see how important this is to our youth.”

My kids spend most of their days playing football and baseball. They don’t stay inside playing video games, or going around the neighborhood breaking in cars, etc. They have dreams. I saw their faces when they saw the new football field…they have a goal to play there one day…for some kids, their dreams/goals end on the Civitan field or at Lykins Park. Anyone saying it is a waste of money must not have kids involved in a sport, or must not see the bigger picture. The School Board came through for all of our kids and I could NOT be happier!”

— Sue Slocum: “Think about what the band program could do with that money. Some school owned instruments are 30 years old! There are studies that prove music enhances brain function. I’m glad Winchester is investing in their kids. I just hope it’s a fair deal for all extracurricular activities.”
