Deborah Jackson, director of programming and marketing at Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation, recently completed the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Directors School.
The school is a two-year professional development training program for current and future leaders of parks and recreation agencies.
Directors School prepares students to effectively and efficiently lead park and recreation departments so they can best serve the community.
Graduates gain insight and skills that enable them to create a successful park and recreation agency.
Jackson was the recipient of both the Toro Company Scholarship (2018, 2019) and the Edroy Jenkins Scholarship (2019) to support her professional development endeavors.
In October, Jackson will begin her fourth year serving as the director of programming and marketing at Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation. Her responsibilities include fitness and park programming, special event planning, grant writing and working with community organizations including the Clark County Activity Coalition and Community Education Advisory Council.
She looks forward to applying what she has learned to enhance the future of Parks and Recreation for Winchester and greater Clark County.
“Directors School has opened my eyes and broadened my vision of what’s possible for park and recreation agencies, including Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation,” she said. “It’s all about mission, vision and values and how we embrace and engage them in doing what is best for Winchester. I’m excited about the future of WCCPR and the ongoing positive impact we will have in our community.”
The NRPA Directors School attendees are required to apply and be accepted into the school. Directors School is sponsored by the Toro Company and NRPA.
