Sept. 30, 2009

— A proposed coal-fired power plant in southern Clark County fell under criticism by the Sierra Club during a brief environmental rally in downtown Lexington.

Oct. 1, 2009

— Clark Middle came away with a sweep of Conkwright in the yearly meeting between the two foes at the middle school football field.

 

25 years ago

Oct. 5, 1994

— After almost 54 years, the American Beauty Shop opened in a new location. Located in the basement of the McEldowney Building since Dec. 14, 1940, Lillian Harris, owner of the shop, purchased B.J.’s Cuts and Styles at 19 W. Broadway St.

— About 40 employees of the Clark County Board of Education gathered at a special board meeting to protest a measure raising the pay for all classified board employees with college educations to $8.50 an hour.

Oct. 7, 1994

— Corey Adams, son of Gareth and Donna Adams, was recognized by the Central Kentucky Council on Youth Leadership as a youth leader at George Rogers Clark High School.

Oct. 1, 1969

— Pvt. Charlotte A. Floyd, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jewell E. Hamon, recently completed the clerical procedures and typing course at the Women’s Army Corps School, Ft. McClellan, Ala. The course included instruction in routine orders, typing, English, grammar and correspondence.

— At the movies: Advertised for Leeds are Sidney Poitier in “The Last Man,” Don Knotts in “The Love God?,” and Fred Astaire in “Finian’s Rainbow.”
