Let me tell you about how awesome Clark County Homemakers are and why you need to come to the open house at the extension office from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Homemakers began in the early 20th Century throughout the different counties around the state.
The volunteer organization works to improve the quality of life for families and communities through leadership development, volunteer service and education.
Today, they serve, lead and educate in many different ways.
Homemakers began as a mostly female organization, as women traditionally worked inside the home while their male counterparts worked outside the home.
Today, homemaker clubs come in all shapes and sizes. They work closely with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Agents (like me) to bring education, leadership and service to communities.
Here is an invitation from Clark County Homemakers president Carol Price via the Clark County Extension Homemakers Facebook page: “This is KEHA week! Check out our banner at the Clark County courthouse and our proclamation being signed by Chris Pace, judge executive. Our Clark County homemakers, 250 members strong, are hosting an open house Thursday, October 17 at the Clark County extension office from 5-7 pm.
We will have door prizes, refreshments and you will get to meet members of the 11 different homemaker clubs and learn what we do. Learn how to start your own Homemakers Club or you can become a mail box member.”
There is a great deal of research out there to indicate there is a correlation between social relationships and increased physical and mental health.
Anecdotal research can tell us this as well — often when we “hang out” with friends, even after having a bad day, we feel better.
Homemakers could be a place you can find great social connections and get involved in the community in a special way.
Come on over to see what Homemakers is all about.
