The Clark County Board of Education voted to allocate $97,960 that would fund several programs on a district budget proposal in its special meeting Thursday.

The motion approved funding the needs outlined in a district budget which included funding an English language arts program for fourth grade, a leveled literacy instruction, accommodations for developmentally-delayed teacher professional development and a History Alive social studies curriculum.

Earlier this year, board chair Gordon Parido asked the board to consider allocating additional funds to schools as funds were available. District and school administrators brought a list of their needs to the board.

“Every nickel we put out there is a plus for every school that we have,” Parido said. “… We have extra money. We’re wanting to fund schools. What I want to try to make sure of is that we fund them in a way that we’re going to get the most bang out of our buck and it’s going to last us and last us.”

The board voted 4-1 in favor of allocating $50 per student with an enrollment in Section 7 based on enrollment as of Nov. 6. Board member Scott Hisle opposed.

Hisle had made a motion to allocate $25 per student, but the motion died for lack of a second.

Parido said the board also plans to look at the list of needs when it comes time to budget for the next fiscal year.

The board meets for its regularly scheduled meeting tonight.
