Registration open for Thanksgiving meal, volunteers

There is plenty of room for volunteers and diners alike Thursday at First United Methodist Church.

The church is hosting its annual Thanksgiving meal with the community. Organizers said they plan to prepare about 1,300 meals today and Thursday.

Church member Mike Jackson said the event relies on volunteers to prepare and deliver the meals.

The church recently discovered its online registration system wasn’t working, and wasn’t getting information from those who want to receive a meal or to help serve.

Jackson said anyone who registered online should call the church at 744-5410 to verify. Those who have already called don’t need to call again, he said.

The church has hosted the Thanksgiving meal for decades, he said. The event started as being a served meal in the church fellowship hall, but has grown so most of its meals being delivered Thursday.

Meals will be served at the church beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday. Deliveries will begin around 10:30 a.m.
