CASTLE: A Christmas song: ‘Sapphy the red-haired golden’
Published 1:32 pm Wednesday, December 18, 2019
All year long I try my best to write informative columns to educate pet owners about serious and sometimes devastating diseases of dogs and cats.
At Christmas each year, I like to have fun with a light-hearted approach to one of the more well-known holiday songs.
Most of us who are pet lovers enjoy a little pet humor from time to time.
To fully enjoy the following excerpt, you can’t just read it; you must sing along to the tune of “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
“Sapphy The Red-Haired Golden”
You know Lassie and Benji
And Toto and Snoopy,
Marley and Balto
And Bingo and Scooby.
But do you recall
The most famous doggie of all?
Sapphy the Red-Haired Golden
Had a very shiny coat
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other doggies
Used to bite and chew her mane
They never let poor Sapphy
Join in any doggie games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve,
Santa came to say,
Sapphy with your coat so bright
Won’t you light-up my sleigh tonight?
Then all the doggies loved her
And they howled up a tree
Sapphy the Red-Haired Golden
You’ll now shine so blissfully!
I would like to thank all of you for reading my column each week and hope you have a blessed holiday.
