Our View: Mark your calendars for 2020

A new year has arrived. That means there are new opportunities ahead of us.

While you are considering some of your resolutions or goals for the new year, we encourage you to make a point of becoming more involved in the community.

There are many ways to be more engaged in your community — you could volunteer, join a club, find a church to attend, shop local, etc.

One great and fun way to become more involved is to make a point of attending more community events.

We often hear there is nothing to do in Winchester.

We know for a fact that is far from the truth.

The Sun offers a community calendar that is typically chock full of things to do in the community.

We’ll admit the happenings become a little more scarce around the holidays, as people crave to spend more time at home and with their families. But in the coming weeks more and more items of interest will be added to the calendar.

The great thing about our calendar is it is community sourced, which means the calendar is only as comprehensive as the community wants it to be.

We add our fair share of events to the calendar manually, but making sure your event is included is simple.

To add events to the calendar, visit winchestersun.com/calendar and select “add event.” There is an easy-to-navigate field of questions you will be asked to answer about time, date, location, cost and more. Fill in those fields and submit your event and it will automatically be added to our online calendar and our calendar that runs on page 5 of our print edition each day.

By adding your event to the calendar, you can ensure thousands of people know your event is coming up.

And as you’re looking for ways to be a more engaged citizen, use our calendar as a resource.

We publish dates of government meetings, addiction recovery meetings, local club meetings, family events, productions at Leeds and more.

We look forward to see more of you at local events throughout 2020.
