With the new year comes a new legislative session, and state Sen. Ralph Alvarado wants to get Clark Countians up to speed.

The senator is meeting with Clark Countians at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at the Winchester-Clark County Bluegrass Community and Technical College campus.

Alvarado said he has done this every year he has been in office as a way to make himself available to the community.

During the event, Alvarado will give an overview of the 2020 legislative session, which will be his sixth session in office, and begins Jan. 7.

There will be opportunities for people to ask questions and to comment on issues.
Alvarado said some of the main topics for this session will be the budget, the pension issue and more.

“When I first ran for office, a lot of people felt disconnected from Frankfort,” Alvarado said. “… I pledged to change that… this is part of that effort for me.”

Alvarado said state Rep. Les Yates was invited, but is unable to make it.

The event is open to the public.

Alvarado said he prefers face-to-face meetings and wanted to make sure he gave his constituents the opportunity to talk with him in person.

“This is my opportunity to report back to the community,” he said. “… I hope to see people there.”
