A Clark County inmate is facing 14 counts of wanton endangerment and other charges after admitting to having illegal drugs in his cell.

Derick Frederick Damrell, 27, of Berea, was being held in the Clark County Detention Center on other charges, but CCDC added more following a search of the cell on Dec. 12.

According to court documents, deputy jailers were conducting a cell check on the third floor when one found a tube with suspected heroin along with other pills and crushed suboxone pills. The cells in the jail typically hold multiple people.

An informant in the jail told deputies the drugs were hidden in coffee grounds.

Damrell admitted to deputies that the drugs were his, according to the citation.

In addition to wanton endangerment, Damrell was also charged with one count of first-degree promoting contraband and two counts of first-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Thursday in Clark District Court, Damrell was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 8. His bond was set at $5,000.
