The sixth-grade Cardinals dropped their season opener to the Colonels but opened up the night with a big win.

After trailing 18-13 at halftime, RDC turned it on in the second half to come away with a 31-28 win.

The team was led in scoring by Montez Gay, who finished with 11 points.

The seventh-grade team looked to repeat their success from opening night against division-rival Bourbon County.

RDC led 10-8 after the first quarter but turned on the gas in the following periods. Outscoring the Colonels 15-5 in the second quarter led the way to a 50-26 win for the seventh-grade team.

Eli Craig led the Cardinals balanced scoring attack with nine points.

In their final game at Letcher Norton Gymnasium as Campbell basketball players, the eighth-grade team went out with a bang.

Scoring the game’s first eight points, the Cards jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

After leading 16-6 following the first period, the Cards went on a 25-2 run that would extend into the third quarter, leading by as much as 41-8.

Nearly every eighth-grader scored points in their final game at RDC’s gym, and all healthy Cardinals got to see action in the 56-26 victory.

The Campbell Cardinals’ next game is against Southern Middle on Thursday and will have one more game in Winchester, a Jan. 21 battle against Harrison County that will be played at the auxiliary gym at George Rogers Clark High School.
