Officials say a Clark County home was destroyed by a fire early Monday morning.

Clark County Fire Chief Ernie Barnes said his department was called to 6266 Ecton Road around 5:45 a.m. Monday.

When crews arrived, the left side of the home was on fire.

“There was a car at the back of the house,” Barnes said. “We weren’t sure if there was someone in there or not. We acted as though there were people inside. We initiated a search and a fire attack.”

Once the fire was out, crews were able to determine there was no one in the home at the time through a secondary search.

“Later, a neighbor came by and said the family also has a van,” Barnes said. “We weren’t able to make contact with the family, but we are assuming they were out together in that vehicle.”

Crews from Clark County Fire and Winchester Fire-EMS were on scene about three and a half hours Monday morning, Barnes said.

“There was extreme fire damage to the left side of the structure, which was a double-wide mobile home,” Barnes said. “There was smoke and fire damage throughout. It’s probably not going to be salvageable.”

As of now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
