AARP has December meeting

AARP Chapter 632 met Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the James B. Allen Generations Center with Sue Staton presiding. There were 21 members and guests present.

Charles Everett led the pledge to the flag.

Staton had Chris Pace, Clark County judge-executive, select five members from those in attendance, and those five received gifts from Sue.

She then asked everyone to share with the group their favorite Christmases and gifts received.

Pace followed with installation of new officers to serve in 2020: Lynn May, president; Glyness Everett, vice president; Colista Ledford, secretary; and Joyce Reffett, treasurer.

Ledford read the secretary’s report and Reffett presented the treasurer’s report.

The next meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. today at the James B. Allen Generations Center, 32 Meadow St. Everyone 50 years of age or older is invited to attend.

LLL Club has January meeting

The LLL Club met Jan. 21 at Central Baptist Church for its regular monthly meeting and potluck luncheon.

David Hoffman, president, conducted the meeting and gave the opening prayer.

Dr. Bill Snowden led the group in singing “There’s a Land That is Fairer Than Day” and “I’ve Got Peace Like a River” accompanied by Peggy Snowden on the piano.

Glenda Hoffman, devotional speaker, read Bible verses from Psalm and Proverbs and closed with prayer.

David Hoffman introduced guest speaker Anna Kenion with United Way of the Bluegrass. They are volunteers known as Trail Blazers. She spoke on changing the lives in communities and showed a video.

Minutes were read by Gayle Crowe and the treasurer’s report was given by Phyllis Henderson. Both were approved as read.

“Out to Lunch” will be Feb. 4 to Cheddar’s in Lexington.

The next monthly meeting will be Feb. 18.

“Happy Birthday” was sung to Mary Lou Dinsmore.

David Hoffman read the prayer list and gave the closing prayer and table blessing.

Lunch was served to members Ann Allen, Juanita Burkhart, Gayle Crowe, Mary Lou Dinsmore, Ken and Barbara Durkin, Pat Gibbs, Jo Gravett, Phyllis Henderson, David and Glenda Hoffman, Lila Omohundro, Bonnie Sartin, Dr. Bill and Peggy Snowden, Janice Taulbee, Lunner Thacker, Mary Watts, Julie Woosley and Conard and Geraldine Young; and guests Anna Kenion, Bill Kennon, Mark Maties, John Powell, David and Debbie Redford, and Kaiden Sexton.
