Fire quickly destroyed a modular home at 2060 Two Mile Road late Monday afternoon.

Clark County Fire Chief Ernie Barnes said firefighters got the dispatch call at 4:51 p.m. and within moments, the building was fully engulfed in flames. When he arrived after 5 p.m., the fire was mostly out, but the house was gutted.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Joy McMillan, who owned the unoccupied structure, was cooking dinner next door for her family when they discovered the building was on fire.

She said the family used the building for storage of things like old kitchen cabinets, bed frames and boxes.

There was also an old camper behind it, but Barnes said it didn’t appear to be damaged.

McMillan said that earlier in the day, she had run a couple of people off who she thinks were “squatters.”

“I told them, ‘You can’t stay there. It’s not a a livable property,’” she said.

It wasn’t the first time she had ordered people to leave. There were people staying there “a couple of winters back,” she said.

She thought it possible the people she ran off might have started the fire.

Her husband, Jimmy, said there was a wood-burning stove in the building and firewood nearby.

“They might have fired that up,” he said.

Barnes said the firefighters had not yet started their investigation.

Winchester Fire-EMS and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the fire.
