Services at First Christian Church

— The First Presbyterian Church and the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will join together for worship at 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26. The service will be hosted by First Presbyterian Church, 130 Windridge Drive. During the worship service, congregants will be invited to observe a Lenten discipline and will receive the Imposition of Ashes. The service will be led by the Rev. Ryan Bradney of First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Jerry Johns of First Christian Church will bring the message. All are welcome to join us for worship.

— This year, the weekly Wednesday gathering at noon during Lent will be hosted by the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 24 E. Hickman St. The annual Lenten Brown Bag Devotion Series participating churches will include First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), First Presbyterian Church, Salem Presbyterian Church and Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The pastors from each congregation, the Rev. Dr. Jerry Johns, the Rev. Ryan Bradney, the Rev. Don Stanley and Father Jim Trimble, will share in leading the weekly study. Teacher training workshop

First Baptist Church, 37 N. Highland St., will host Beverly J. Sonnier for a teacher training workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21. The workshop will include an in-depth training about teaching the gospel and building a strong Christian education ministry. This training is for teachers, deacons, ministers and anyone interested in learning more about teaching the gospel. Cost is $15 per person, or group rates apply. Services at Salem Church

The transfiguration of Jesus Christ marked a turning point in His life and ministry, even as it marks a transition in the Church’s liturgical year. Come and learn more about it this Sunday at Salem Church at Pine Grove, 312 Combs Ferry Road, as Pastor Don Stanley shares his sermon, “To Be Transfigured.” Worship at the “Small Country Church with a Big Heart for Jesus” begins at 11 a.m. Following the service, the “Soup and Scripture” Bible study will continue a consideration of the Psalms, looking at Psalm 2. On Feb. 26, the church will share in a special Ash Wednesday service beginning at 6 p.m.
