High school juniors and seniors from across the Sixth Congressional District recently participated in U.S. Rep. Andy Barr’s 2020 Youth Ambassador Leadership Conference in Lexington.

The non-partisan conference presented students with a unique educational opportunity to hear directly from the leaders of Kentucky about their experiences in the roles they serve each day.

“With more than 70 participants in this year’s Youth Ambassador Leadership Conference, there’s no question that the future of the Sixth District is in tremendous, capable hands,” Barr said. “I am confident that these students will return to their schools and communities with valuable lessons to share with their classmates and friends.”

Grissom Yates, from George Rogers Clark High School, is the Clark County student who participated in this year’s conference.

During the conference, Barr gave students insight into his work in Congress and how that work impacts the District.

Additionally, students heard from a variety of speakers from across the District about their leadership roles in the community.

This year’s speakers were: Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers; Ashley Applegate, Kentucky Welding Institute director of training; Sam Johnson, Kentucky Welding Institute graduate; White House Clinics CEO Stephanie Moore; Josh Taylor, assistant director at Graham Office at the University of Kentucky; Scott Matheny, owner and founder of Semper Tek Inc; Olympic Gold Medalist Col. (Ret.) Micki King; Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball; and WKYT news director Robert Thomas.
