A man sustained non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday night when he was attacked on Depot Street in downtown Winchester.

Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said officers were called to Depot Street around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, where they found Ernest Campbell, 63, with lacerations on his head and hands.

Hall said Campbell is homeless and had been camping out in the area when he was attacked by another individual who is also believed to be homeless.

Hall said police are looking for the suspect, but no arrests have been made at this time.

“We don’t know if the two are acquainted,” or what led to the altercation at this point, Hall said.

Hall said another person on the scene witnessed the altercation and called for help.

Campbell was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
